Ahh... those first glimpses of summer. A homemade pitcher of iced tea, the first night sitting around a firepit, and that moment you throw on a crisp white tee for the day, no jacket required. Finally, summer is arriving and wearing all white just feels right—but whites can be tricky, so we’ve got some pro-tips and core pieces to make wearing whites feel as easy as a summer breeze.
Did you know that a plain white tee was the launch piece for Leallo? We had a hard time finding a quality white tee that was flattering, not too sheer or clingy, and stood up to washing well, so we made our own! We’ve grown a lot since then, but the simplicity of that quality white tee is at the core of what we do—beautiful, elevated basics.
THREE MAIN FACTORS TO KEEP IN MIND:
- FABRICS: Summer whites should be cool and airy, so always look for breathable, lightweight, natural fabrics like cotton gauze, linen, and Pima cotton. Pima has extra-long fibers that create a beautiful, breathable sheen with no pilling, it’s our favorite. Steer clear of synthetics even if they feel soft and lightweight, they won’t breathe or wash as well as natural fabrics do.
- SHEERNESS: White fabrics do tend to be sheer if they aren't constructed just right, so look for quality natural fabrics with a tight weave (like Pima) and dresses with built-in linings (like our Cabana Button Back in the main photo above). Go for simple, smooth undergarments in matching skin-tones, and always double check your outfit, front and back, in good lighting before you leave the house.

CARE: Whites seem to pick up all the stains, so they can be a little high maintenance (just like the best of us) but if you follow 2 simple steps you'll have gorgeous whites all season long.
First, always buy quality natural fabrics, they'll clean up and hold up to washings much better than synthetics.
And second, spot treat stains, never toss your stained whites into the laundry basket, the stains will set as they sit, and become practically permanent when they hit the dryer.
