Winter brings about a charm of its own with cozy sweaters and festive gatherings, but it can also present unique challenges for social wellness. Shorter days, colder temperatures, and back-to-back schedules often lead to less time spent connecting with friends or engaging in socially-minded, self-care activities. Between balancing career, family, and personal goals, prioritizing social wellness in the throes of winter  is essential for the mind, body, and spirit.

In Good Company

Our wellness series is a continuous spotlight on the seven pillars of wellness, and often, social wellness is the last to be prioritized. Social wellness refers to our ability to form meaningful relationships, communicate effectively, and maintain a supportive network of friends and loved ones. It’s about nurturing connections that provide emotional support, companionship, and a sense of belonging. Generally, social bonds are known to improve mental health, reduce stress, and enhance physical well-being.

Staying Active & Socially Connected

Ok, we'll say it -- January isn't always cute! Winter limits opportunities for social interactions. Even Megan admits, "it can get a bit long." 12-degree temps aren't exactly encouraging while post-holiday stress and the pressure of new-year goals can leave little time (or energy) for socializing.

However, it's SO important to make dates with girlfriends to get you out of the house and connected to someone, or something, other than work and family.

Prioritize Social Wellness This Winter

1. Schedule Intentional Time for Connection

Plan regular catch-ups with friends and family, whether it’s a weekend brunch, a cozy movie night, or a virtual coffee date. Setting aside specific times ensures that social interactions remain a priority.

2. Create a Supportive Wardrobe

Feeling good starts with looking good. Whether it’s elevated layering basics, like our Chloe Long Sleeve Tee, or a chic cashmere set, like our bestselling Alicia Cashmere Sweater and tasha Cashmere Pant, the right pieces definitely make the thought of leaving the house a little more enticing!

Straight from Megan: "I'm living for the Montauk Cable Crew; it's so thick and warm. I'm also not leaving the house without my waffle cashmere scarf and beanie!

3. Join a Community

Find a group or activity that aligns with your interests, such as a book club, yoga class (Hamptons Hot Yoga in Bridgehampton, anyone?), or crafting circle. These gatherings provide opportunities to meet like-minded individuals and foster new friendships.

4. Celebrate Small Moments

Not every connection needs to be an overly thought out event. Simply sharing a good laugh with a colleague, sending a thoughtful text to that friend you haven't spoken with in a while (or handwritten note!) can go a long way in strengthening relationships, and boosting mood.

Pro-Tip: Modern General's Dreamy coffee and our Alapca Cocoon Cardigan are the perfect pairing :)

5. Practice Self-Care Together

Mix up your typical self-care routine by inviting a friend to join you for a spa day, a winter hike, or a Tuesday morning yoga session. Taking care of yourself is easier and more enjoyable when shared.

Have a great week, friends!

xx
